Lennox Air Conditioner Warranty: Everything You Need to Know (2024)

Lennox International has been a leading U.S. provider of HVAC and climate control equipment for more than a century. Air conditioners for residential and commercial applications comprise a significant portion of the company’s contemporary product offerings.

Lennox air conditioners trend more expensive than other brands. Some more affordable models are in the $3,000 to $4,000 range, while others can exceed $10,000, especially when you factor in installation costs. Homeowners who pay such amounts understandably want some assurance that their equipment will operate reliably and efficiently for a substantial length of time. Fortunately, Lennox supports its appliances with product guarantees.

A Lennox warranty is not one-size-fits-all, however. This guide will help you unpack the manufacturer’s warranties that come with Lennox products, and we’ll share some information on how to extend your coverage to maintain a healthy air conditioner for many years to come.

Understanding Your Lennox Air Conditioner Warranty

Lennox produces air conditioners under three main product lines:

Dave Lennox Signature Collection

Elite Series

Merit Series

The warranty support for Lennox air conditioners can vary depending on the equipment model and series. Broadly speaking, though, Lennox offers a basic limited warranty, with no registration required, on most products. For eligible products, customers can participate in Lennox’s Warranty Your Way program, which allows for extending warranty coverage in a manner that is up to the customer’s discretion. Typically, the Warranty Your Way program offers the option between a longer window of parts-only coverage and a shorter coverage window that also includes labor costs.

Once Lennox’s warranty expires, customers must purchase extended warranty coverage from a third-party provider.

What’s Covered and What’s Not?

The Lennox basic limited air conditioner warranty covers parts but not labor. Some parts are excluded (typically consumable items, such as filters). Depending on the model, the compressor might have a longer coverage window than the other equipment parts.

With the extended warranty through the Warranty Your Way program, it is possible to receive labor coverage as well. There’s a tradeoff, however. Customers who opt for a period of combined parts and labor coverage may forfeit a few years’ worth of parts coverage.

Also bear in mind that Lennox warranties come with eligibility requirements and exclusions. The manufacturer’s warranty is meant to support products that happen to break down because of a defective part or flaw in manufacturing. It will not apply if the equipment is misused, abused, improperly installed, destroyed in a weather event, and so on.

How Long Is a Lennox Air Conditioner Warranty?

The length of basic Lennox HVAC warranty coverage varies by product series:

Dave Lennox Signature Series Air Conditioners

Equipment in the Dave Lennox Signature series has some of the most robust coverage that Lennox offers. The compressor and most other component parts are covered for 10 years. Heat exchangers could have 20 years of coverage or lifetime coverage, depending on the model.

Elite Series Air Conditioners

Air conditioners in the Elite series have similar coverage to those in the Dave Lennox Signature series, though some component parts have a shorter coverage window. The compressor is covered for 10 years, and the heat exchanger, depending on the equipment model, may have coverage for 20 years or indefinitely. Other covered parts, however, are only guaranteed to be replaced for 5 years.

Merit Series Air Conditioners

The Merit series of Lennox air conditioners has the shortest converge periods. The compressor and other covered parts have 5 years of protection. The heat exchanger is covered for 20 years, and no model has the option for lifetime heat exchanger coverage.

All new Lennox products will have the corresponding basic limited warranty parts coverage outlined above. Registration is not required. In many cases, the warranty window can be extended to include labor coverage or longer lasting parts coverage.

With product registration, homeowners who have purchased products in the Elite or Merit series have two options for extended coverage, neither of which entails an additional expense. One option is to accept an additional 5 years of parts-only coverage. The other option is to choose 3 years of labor coverage with 2 years of additional parts-only coverage.

A similar choice is available to owners of air conditioners in the Dave Lennox Signature series. These customers can opt for 2 years or additional parts-only coverage or 3 years of labor coverage (with no extension of parts coverage).

So, let’s sum up. Factoring in both the basic limited warranty and extended warranty options through the Warranty Your Program, Lennox customers can expect the following guaranteed coverage:

For Elite and Merit series models:

Option 1: 10 years of parts coverage (with no labor coverage)

Option 2: 7 years of parts coverage with 3 years of labor coverage

For Dave Lennox Signature models:

Option 1: 12 years of parts coverage (with no labor coverage)

Option 2: 10 years of parts coverage with 3 years of labor coverage

Note that labor coverage, if chosen, runs concurrent with parts coverage. So, for example, if you buy a Lennox Elite air conditioner and choose the second option above, parts and labor together would be guaranteed for the first three years after purchase. After that, you would have only parts coverage for four more years.

Also remember that these are broad warranty terms that apply in most cases, but not necessarily all. The specifics of your warranty could depend on the model in question, where you live, and several other factors. Always confirm your warranty information with your product’s manufacturer.

How to Check Warranty on Lennox Air Conditioner Equipment

If your Lennox air conditioner is less than 5 years old and you are the original owner, it is very likely that your warranty is still active. When in doubt, refer to the registration and warranty certificates that Lennox would have supplied with your purchase. If you can’t find either certificate, contact Lennox’s customer service line. Be ready to share your product’s model and serial number.

Even if your Lennox warranty has expired, you or a previous owner may have registered for extended warranty coverage through a third-party. The duration of an extended warranty can vary. Some may be active for one year, while others are valid for more than a decade. Refer to your registration documentation to determine if your extended warranty is still active. If you can’t find your contract, contact the warranty provider directly.

Best Practices for Warranty Success

Lennox warranties have a number of stipulations. Understanding exclusions and eligibility requirements is essential to getting coverage you are entitled to.

First, if you buy a new Lennox product, make sure you register it with the company as soon as possible. While virtually all Lennox products have at least five years of basic parts coverage, the extended coverage, which may or may not include labor coverage, requires product registration within 60 days of purchase. This extended coverage comes at no additional cost to you. You don’t want to forfeit many years of appliance protection because you waited too long to register your air conditioner.

Also make sure you are using your Lennox product as intended. If you use a residential air conditioner for commercial applications, Lennox will void your product’s warranty. Your coverage may also prematurely expire unless you ensure that your air conditioner is properly installed by a certified professional.

Finally, keep in mind that Lennox requires regular maintenance. Consult your product’s documentation to determine how often the component parts should be professionally serviced. Take steps to avoid overtaxing your air conditioner, such as making your home more energy efficient. A relatively minor investment in equipment maintenance can lead to substantial savings down the line.

Extended Warranties and Service Contracts

What happens when Lennox’s warranty expires? Homeowners have a couple options. One is to just assume the risk of equipment failure and pay out of pocket to have the air conditioner repaired or replaced if something goes wrong. The obvious downside is that you never know when that expense will arise or how much it will be.

The other option, however, is to purchase an extended service contract. Think of this as a sort of appliance insurance. You pay a premium to maintain coverage for a predetermined period of time. If you encounter problems with your air conditioner, you can submit a claim to have the issues resolved at a fraction of what the repair would typically cost.

Lennox does provide information on how to purchase extended coverage through a partner third-party vendor, but the coverage is limited to Lennox HVAC products. Alternatively, you can invest in a broader and more comprehensive home warranty to support not only your Lennox products, but nearly all of your home appliances, regardless of make or model.
